The celebration of Tu B’Shevat encourages people to more closely examine and act on the Jewish value of environmental justice. It is Jewish teachings such as this that underpin Bar-Ilan University’s on-going commitment to preserve our planet’s natural resources and generate new ones for future generations.
At Bar-Ilan, going green is not just a slogan — it is a moral imperative. With this mission in mind, Bar-Ilan scientists are leading the way in renewable energy research. Recent Bar-Ilan breakthroughs include:
- Developing an affordable, longer-lasting Aluminum-Air Battery for electric cars that will be able to driven record distances. The Israel start-up company Phinergy has acquired the technology rights to the battery.
- Successfully demonstrating alternative ways to produce lower cost, super-efficient solar energy cells.
- Applying the principles of sustainability on Bar-Ilan’s “Green Campus.” BIU’s campus, which has been recognized by the Israel Ministry of Environmental Protection, features technological aids that preserve water and electricity.
