New York, NY -
New BIU Medical School Dean Prof. Ran Tur-Kaspa made his first official visit to the United States on June 26th 2012. The reception held at the Lotos Club in Manhattan was attended by members of the Â鶹´«Ã½ (Â鶹´«Ã½) Board and prominent leaders.
Â鶹´«Ã½ Co-Chairman Michael Jesselson welcomed everyone. Board Vice-President Gail Propp introduced Prof. Tur-Kaspa, who discussed the importance and impact of the new Medical School in Israel and in particular, the Northern Region.
The Medical School, the first to open in Israel in 37 years, will help remedy the critical shortage of physicians in Israel. It will create a broad upgrade in infrastructure and quality of hospitals and healthcare services in the strategic Galilee, and stimulate a major socio-economic upswing in northern Israel that will revitalize the Jewish presence in the region.
The school will also lure home Israeli scientists, thereby helping to stem the “brain drain” which is causing Israel to lose many brilliant professors and researchers to institutions abroad. In addition, it is allowing for many students who had no choice but to study abroad to return to Israel to complete their studies and remain in Israel.
